Greetings Earthlings! Last week we shared news about the landmark climate case won in Montana and this week we have more major climate news, this time from Ecuador.

Ecuador voted to end drilling in the Amazon.
The decision passed today to stop oil drilling in one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, the Yasuní National Park. Just 2.5 square acres of Yasuní contains more animal species than the whole of Europe. Other economic activities, like eco-tourism are expected to help fill the gap that the oil money would have brought in. CNN

Biden is investing 1.5 billion in “carbon vacuums”. Two projects in Texas and Louisiana will be a global testing ground for the new “direct air capture” technology that aims to pull greenhouse gas emissions out of the atmosphere and bury them underground. While globally emissions reduction targets are not being reached at the speed needed, this technology may be an important component to curb warming. Washington Post

Climate communicators are translating terms into Bengali and Hindi. Climate change communication often excludes people who don't speak English, and there is currently no equivalent of just transition or even climate change in the Bengali language. Researchers, activists, and communicators are working to make jargon-heavy climate change and energy transition dialogue accessible to people who will be impacted the most. Context
