South America pledges to end Amazon deforestation by 2030. The eight South American nations that make up the Amazon rainforest have agreed to adopt the pledge. Scientists see Amazon preservation as key to averting climate disaster, conflicting with the economic interests of the gold, timber, and oil industries. Time Magazine

Amtrak to expand service with $75 billion in funding. “The largest amount of funding for passenger rail ever” would bring service to almost every major city in the US in 15 years, improve 25 existing routes and build 39 new ones, adding 20 million trips annually. Bloomberg

New study validates the impact of eating less meat. While you don’t need to completely remove meat from your diet, reducing consumption from over 100g of meat a day (a big burger) to under 50g can have a big impact. BBC
